Programs & Projects

Here are some of the projects we contribute to:

Education Foundation

The Education Foundation of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, established on September 20, 1927, offers low-interest student loans and scholarships to support the educational aspirations of deserving individuals. The Foundation operates a Revolving Loan Fund, which is sustained through generous donations to a dedicated trust. These loans, available for both two and four year programs at accredited colleges and universities, as well as for vocational training at recognized trade schools, aim to make higher education more accessible and affordable for students following their high school graduation.

The Living Legacy Program

Established in 1989, this program is dedicated to planting trees and enhancing the environment. With the guiding philosophy of "Plant a tree for those who come after me," the program aims to beautify communities and improve local ecosystems. Many lodges have partnered with city parks, recreation departments, and school districts to plant trees in areas that benefit from increased shade and environmental improvements. In addition to its environmental impact, the program often honors the memory of deceased lodge members by planting trees in their names, creating lasting tributes that contribute to the betterment of the community for generations to come.

Visual Research Foundation

The Visual Research Foundation, endowed with $2.5 million, continues to donate over $500,000 annually to support vision care and cutting-edge research through the renowned Wilmer Eye Institute. Through this partnership, Odd Fellows and Rebekahs work to advance ophthalmological research by funding Professorships in Ophthalmology at the world-famous Wilmer Ophthalmology Institute at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. Established in 1956, the Odd Fellow World Eye Bank and Visual Research Foundation are dedicated to conducting intensive studies in corneal transplantation, as well as exploring treatments for allergic and congenital eye diseases. These efforts play a crucial role in advancing medical knowledge and improving vision care worldwide.

Since 1949, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs have sponsored the Pilgrimage for Youth, an annual educational trip that brings together high school students from across the U.S., Canada, and around the world. This unique program offers students the opportunity to explore key historical and cultural sites while engaging in thought-provoking discussions on world affairs. Beyond the educational experience, the Pilgrimage fosters lasting friendships, helping young people build global connections and broaden their perspectives, making it an invaluable opportunity for personal growth and cross-cultural understanding.

SOS Children's Village

SOS Children’s Village provides a nurturing and stable home for orphaned, abandoned, neglected, and abused children across 132 countries worldwide. Established by a non-governmental child welfare organization several years ago, SOS Children’s Villages ensures that every child in need receives care and support, regardless of race, nationality, or creed. Each child is placed in a loving environment, with a surrogate parent and siblings, and is given the opportunity to grow up in a permanent, supportive home within a larger village community. This holistic approach not only meets their immediate needs but also empowers them to become happy, responsible, and productive adults, prepared to take their rightful place in society.

Annual Patriotic Pilgrimage

Each year, members of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs honor fallen heroes through their Annual Patriotic Pilgrimages to the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as to the Canadian War Memorial and other significant sites. The Department of the Army and the Official Custodian of Arlington National Cemetery have designated the first Sunday of May for this solemn occasion, allowing Odd Fellows and Rebekahs to pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of their countries. During the pilgrimage, members place wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington, Virginia, as a mark of respect and remembrance for the brave men and women who gave their lives for freedom.

Odd Fellow & Rebekah Homes

Odd Fellow and Rebekah Homes have a long history of providing compassionate care for the elderly. The first Odd Fellow Home was established in 1872 in Pennsylvania, setting the foundation for a tradition of support and community for older adults. In 1885, a Children's Home was founded in Corsicana, Texas, further expanding the Order's commitment to caring for those in need. In 1905, the Home for the Aged was established in Texas, offering a welcoming environment where many members of the Order, as well as non-members, have found comfort and companionship in their later years. These homes continue to serve as vital resources, ensuring that our elderly are treated with dignity, respect, and care.
